Kitchen upgrade in Edegem
“Like a puzzle, one piece at a time”
About the project
This project started with a very specific request: finding a sculptural lamp for the staircase. We were looking at one of Pani Jurek’s lamps for the hallway, but something didn’t feel right. The space was transitional, a place you pass through, not a place where you stay. The lamp would not be fully seen, not truly appreciated, and ultimately not enjoyed as it deserves to be.
So we paused the question of lighting the staircase and returned to the object itself.
If the desire was really about the lamp, then perhaps it needed a different stage. Based on the layout of the house, the answer was simple: the kitchen.
The scope
Finding the right place
The kitchen is the heart of this home. It opens to the dining room, connects to the garden, and acts as a passage into the living area. It is a space of movement, gathering, and everyday life, exactly the kind of place where a sculptural object can truly live.

We chose to place the lamp above the kitchen island, treating it as a centrepiece rather than a functional afterthought. This single move shifted the perception of the kitchen: from a purely practical zone to a space that could hold an artistic gesture.
Color, material, and dialogue
Once the placement was clear, we worked carefully on the composition of the lamp itself. The colors and elements were selected in dialogue with the existing interior: cream cupboards, warm golden and bronze accents, wooden furniture, touches of copper and soft green details.
What made this process special was the attention to detail and the openness of the family to explore design together.

The lamp became a shared decision, not just something chosen from a catalogue, but something composed in relation to the space and to how the family lives.
Restyling without renovating
This project was not about renovation. It was about small, precise shifts that gradually changed how the kitchen is experienced.
Step by step, we introduced new layers:
- custom-made vases and serving bowls that carry personal meaning
- Italian ceramics that bring tactility and color
- new cutlery sets that subtly change the rhythm of the table

With each addition, the kitchen moved further away from being a separate, purely functional room and closer to becoming an extension of the living space - a place to gather, to linger, to enjoy.
A kitchen that reflects the family

Over time, the process started to feel like a game: testing combinations, bringing new objects into the picture, seeing how they resonate with the space and with the family.
Like a puzzle, the space came together gradually, one piece at a time, until it felt right. Until it felt like it truly represented who they are as a family.
The objects introduced are not only functional, they carry emotional value. The custom-made vase we put together, the bowl inspired by Italian ceramics, the sculptural lamp above the island: each of them now holds a small story within the daily life of the family.
