About Studio Douze Degrés

For Studio Douze Degrés, light is more than a functional element - it is a material, a source of emotion and a way of transforming space. The French multidisciplinary studio explores the relationship between light, objects and their surroundings, creating designs that sit somewhere between function, experimentation and poetry.

The studio’s very name refers to the blue hour: the fleeting moment when the sun sits between 6 and 12 degrees below the horizon, when day gradually gives way to night. This fascination with transitional moments is reflected in their approach to design — exploring what happens in the space between the familiar and the unexpected.

Experimenting with light and materials

Based near Paris, Studio Douze Degrés works across product design, furniture, scenography, installations and spatial design. Their workshop-studio is a place for experimentation, where materials, techniques and ideas are continuously tested in dialogue with craftsmen and industry. 

Their Flare collection is a particularly striking expression of this approach. Inspired by the optical principles of lighthouses, Flare uses a Fresnel lens to capture, amplify and project the light of a candle, turning a subtle flame into a luminous presence that moves through the space. 

Design that creates atmosphere

Studio Douze Degrés approaches every project as an opportunity to research, experiment and create a story. From collectible lighting and objects to immersive scenographies and installations, their work goes beyond functionality to explore how design can shape perception and experience. 

Studio Douze Degrés at RUIMTE

Flare first caught my attention during Paris Design Week in 2025, and since then, Studio Douze Degrés and RUIMTE have stayed in close contact. From the very beginning, there was a natural idea of working together — we share similar values and, importantly, a similar approach to how design should be presented, communicated and experienced.

Although Studio Douze Degrés is still a young studio, I deeply value their way of working: the enormous attention to detail, the patience behind each project and the care they put into developing their ideas. Their thoughtful, experimental approach and genuine respect for the design process make this collaboration a very natural fit for RUIMTE.
