Introducing Yann Gandon & Maxime Sauce — The Knot Stool joins RUIMTE's collection
A Discovery at Paris Design Week
In September, I spent four days at Paris Design Week, exploring galleries and discovering new talents. One encounter that stayed with me was meeting Copenhagen-based designers Yann Gandon and Maxime Sauce, whose work immediately caught my attention.
Their Knot Stool stood out for its clarity, ingenuity, and the energy they both bring to their practice. What struck me was not only the simplicity of the form but also the way Yann and Maxime spoke about their process — passionate, creative, and committed to rethinking how furniture can be made.
The Knot Stool — Rethinking Construction
The Knot Stool challenges conventional construction methods. Instead of using glue, screws, or bolts, it relies entirely on ropes and knots to create structural integrity. What is usually hidden inside furniture becomes the central, defining element of the design.
By choosing aluminium, a durable and adaptable material, Yann and Maxime shift the focus to the innovative knotting technique. The rope is not an accessory but the key to the stool’s stability and identity.
Bespoke formats and variations
At RUIMTE, I value collaborations where design and dialogue go hand in hand. Working closely with Yann and Maxime allows us not only to curate their innovative pieces but also to offer bespoke formats and variations of the Knot Stool. This flexibility makes it possible to adapt the design to different spaces and contexts while staying true to its core philosophy: simplicity, ingenuity, and the tactile experience of the knot.
Why at RUIMTE?
At RUIMTE, I am drawn to design that is both uncommon and resonant. The Knot Stool embodies this spirit: simple yet ingenious, engineered yet playful, functional yet poetic.
I'm proud to welcome Yann Gandon and Maxime Sauce to RUIMTE and to present the Knot Stool as part of our curated collection.
